Thompson Newkirk is New York City's southern pop-rock artist. Thompson's music is guitar forward, upbeat, and lyric based. He tells stories about love lost, getting kicked out of Canada, run ins with the law, and not letting the harsh realities of life win over the soul. His main influences stem from groups like Jason Isbell, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Dire Straits, and Phish. Almost every one of Thompson's songs start in one place and through twists, rhythm changes and breaks, end somewhere down the road. His high energy and audience participation style makes for a show that you don't want to miss.

Thompson's songwriting journey started when he was in High School - he used to write about tumultuos emotions while now he writes about stories that I have experienced throughout his life. All of his songs are about something specific and tell a specific story, he doesn't really have any party songs or songs that are just for fun. He loves catchy riffs and progressions, but they are coupled with something that means something substantial.

Thompson Newkirk's guitar ability and deep lyrics were the things that caught my attention when I first met him, and his new release "Pass Mistakes" is no exception. Starting off with a very cool riff, it suddenly catches the attention of the listener with an appealing southern rock vibe and captivating vocals. The background harmonies add echoes to the memorable lyrics. This song is a strong and healthy reminder to stop focusing on our past mistakes and move on instead. Thompson's past discography and its interesting sounds are definitely worth a listen as well!

Thompson shares: "The song was written in almost a sarcastic way like - go ahead beat yourself down. Feel sorry for yourself, don’t smile, don’t look ahead, just let your whole life pass you by because you keep focusing on your few missteps and mistakes (that really no one except you even thinks about). Let yourself continue to be bogged down by all of your detrimental toxic thoughts about yourself - but what I am saying is to NOT do that. You should let go, forgive yourself and live on and allow your experiences to make you who you are. Life is short and sweet but in the same time, life is long and we change and we should embrace the change as we grow. The term "liquid silver" in the third verse is supposed to represent a mirror - in that I no longer am looking at myself and my mistakes and rather this process is now for someone else to go through".

You can catch Thompson playing live at Sweetbriar Restaurant in NYC the first Saturday of every month. Check out his social media and music links below to stay updated on his journey!
