International Indie Music: my favorite April 2023 releases

Enjoy my favorite picks released in March 2023, in chronological order! "NIGHT MUSIC" - Faeya -  Canada (released on April 1st) Vulnerable and raw, riveting and real, Faeya is a multi-talented singer and songwriter. The Canadian songbird is finding early success in her ethereal ballads, having culminated streams in over 60 countries. Her striking, piano-driven, cinematic style pushes the boundaries of songwriting for Faeya, giving her an instrumentation edge among the peers with which she shares her genre. Combined with her profoundly poetic lyrics, Faeya pens the music that most of us would be too bashful, too reticent to reveal what is really churning inside our core. "Night music" was inspired by a Celtic myth: that fairies are deceitful and lure people into the woods with their beautiful music. This turned into a metaphor for naivety- how the most innocent of us see the world through rose-tinted glasses, expecting the best of everyone. I wrote it o...

How can music help and inspire a writer, producer and Disney editor? A conversation with David Acuff

Image
David Acuff's life-motto is very simple: "What doesn't kill you makes you funnier!" and he must have survived to a lot of killer attacks, because he's one of the most hilarious people I've ever met through Instagram! I started following him this past autumn thanks to a comic reel that made me laugh in a bad day and his content makes me smile on a daily basis since then.  Acuff is a writer and filmmaker in Los Angeles, CA, and he is also a full time Producer-Editor for the Walt Disney company. He enjoys doing voiceover work for Audible.com book projects as well as animated characters. He also wrote/edited the feature film "Restoration" distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and I discovered he did stand-up comedy in the past, that is no surprise at all! His eclectic talent probably finds its origins in his childhood. David grew up the son of an Air Force Colonel and lived all over the USA. But being the new kid every year in school taught hi...

International Indie Music: my favorite January 2023 releases

Enjoy my favorite picks released in January 2023, in chronological order! "MY RUNAWAY" - Francesca T - Orlando, USA (released on January 6th) Francesca Tarantino is super young! She is 14 years old in 9th grade. She lives outside of Orlando, FL and she loves rock music especially the classics. She says: "My Runaway is my debut single. I’m excited about it because it rocks and that’s exactly the sound I was going for. It was co-written with my producer, Mike Walker and my older brother Dominic. It’s about finding yourself in a place or situation where you know you shouldn’t be and you want to escape but at the same time you’re worried what others are going to think of you. I think it really is something that people my age struggle with…doing the right thing without worrying about what others might think. For me this was my escape or my runaway from things that weren’t good for me". Instagram:  @francescatmusic "COGNIZANCE" - Bre...

"HANDPICKED" - Robin Winther - Stockolm, Sweden (EP released on December 2nd) Robin Winther is a Stockholm-based producer that is now writing and performing his own country music. Having entered into the music world at an early age, Johan has played in every genre from classical to blues to pop. Over the last few years, Johan's songs are generally born from questions about existence, love, light and darkness. He seeks to be honest in both his deep faith and in his nagging doubts. In his latest release, Double Yellow Lines, Johan opens his heart and sings about the beautiful and dangerous thing that is giving yourself to someone else, and allowing them to love you.
