Vintz Desert is an indie folk singer-songwriter located in Maryland. While serving in the Marine Corps, Vintz fine-tuned his craft and discovered his voice and passion for telling stories and sharing emotions through song. He released his debut EP "Through the smoke; a liar" when he was still in the middle of his military contract and didn't know anything about music industry. The EP features his top streaming song "Love in Boston". Then he relocated to the east coast where he opened up for folk rock band Oliver Hazard. He can be described as "beautifully melancholic" and focuses on direct relatable stories. His soft-spoken and raspy voice transfers his pain and experiences from him to his audience, and enters into a symbiotic relationship with them.

He just released his latest EP "The Blue Journal" on May 20th, an introspective and soft jouney through his feelings. His music has been mind-blowing for me since the very first listen, you can definitely feel the accuracy he puts in the harmonies and melody, among the different instruments. The word that I think describes him better is "inspiration". His sweet and calm voice seems to melt with the music and I'm very happy to have had the opportunity to meet such a crazy talented indie musician. Compared to his first EP, this one is more intimate and softer and he chooses more lyrically challenging songs. So let Vintz making you "slow down" by listening to it!

About the Ep, Vintz shares: "I think the biggest inspiration and meaning behind this EP is the idea of understanding yourself. These 5 songs are the top 5 songs that I feel represent my life within the past few years. The reason why I picked the blue journal title is because last year I got a hold of a journal and started writing things in it; songs, ideas, thoughts, and emotions. These 5 songs I feel are the best representation of the 50+ songs that may never see the light of day from that journal. They talk about love, they talk about checking your pride, about accepting that who you are in this present moment might not be who you want or need to be, and they talk about reaching a point in life where you can trust yourself".

I also asked Vintz to tell us the meaning behind the different songs, because I found them incredibly interesting - his songwriting process is extremely fascinating in my opinion.

He says: "Sisyphus is the first track, and it dives deep into the old Greek myth of King Sisyphus. He essentially cheated death and as a result, got forced by Zeus to push a boulder up a hill until he reached the top, but every time he got close it would roll back down. This story is so interesting and has a lot of meanings behind it that I will probably revisit in the future. The main idea is that despite how much you try, you still might find yourself starting over again. Its not much of a hopeful song (at least not how I intended it to be) but there can be aspects of starting over and embracing that starting over process in it.

Enemy is the next song on the EP and this one is such an incredible one. This is the first duet style songs that I’ve released and its such a powerful piece. The idea is that I’m trudging through high waters and I’m trying so hard to be the person I need to be for this lover, but something keeps holding me down. I had this idea one night after messing around with some pretty basic chords and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what to do for a 2nd verse. So, I thought about it and asked my friend Laura Lucas, and she was instantly like yes and got on it. I think it was only like a week that had passed when she came back with a verse, and I instantly fell in love and had her record it (She was in Canada at the time so we couldn’t really share studio time). The first interesting thing about this song is that rather than being a traditional "oh youre sad and I’m your lover" type of song, its actually two hopeless romantic lovers who are kind of battling the same thing. Its like that classic "right person, wrong time" situation. The battling melodies during the bridge is my favorite.

The next track is Queen/King and I absolutely adore this track. This is supposed to be a more intimate stripped back track. The idea is that I’m almost watching myself from an outside point of view battle with my ego; specifically, with how it affects a partner. Its, in my opinion, one of the most honest songs of mine. I like to think I’m a great partner, but its almost impossible to love someone and not have discrepancies and to not get prideful at times and this song just talks about putting that aside and loving someone for what they are before its too late.

Whatever Happened Part 2 is another really raw song. This one is the continuation of a story I was telling in my first EP that kind of is an extension of Queens/Kings… It’s very convoluted. Basically, the first whatever happened talks about that moment after a relationship when youre sitting all alone thinking "wow that’s really it... what happened". So this song extends to afterwards when you are figuring out what you want to do. Some people work on themselves and try their best to move on. Some people just self destruct.. this song talks about what that was like.

River of gold is the final song in the EP and this one means so much to me. It’s an ethereal song that talks about accepting and trusting yourself. It talks about getting out of the deep end, accepting a new found mindset (whatever it might be for you) and moving on. This song was the hardest for me to record because the final chorus is so powerful and every take just wasn’t representing that. As of now, this is my favorite song off of the EP. The motivation comes from a point in my life where I had truly felt as happy as I could be. I was working on myself a lot, practicing a lot of self-help, and it almost felt like I woke up one day and could just breathe. This feeling of course didn’t last haha, but I still remember that day and this song just captures a bit of how amazing that felt".

River of Gold

Cold feet, winter breeze

Carrying me to safety

Entering the shallow end

Quantize the pain behind those eyes

Forgive their lies and slowly let them die

Trust in yourself again

So wont you carry me

Carry me, carry me down

A river of gold

See how your mind moves now

Fortune bound, care of lack of sound

Crystalized in new found thought

So wont you carry me

Carry me, carry me down

A river of gold
