Mrfy is one of my best discoveries of this autumn, a real musical gem that just needed to be found. I've been blown away by her vocals, and I can't get enough of the chill jazzy rhythm. This release is just the top of the iceberg of all her upcoming projects, including a musical and an indie film featuring two of her original songs. Her eclectic personality and bursting creativity have allowed her to create captivating performance in the Orange County music scene, and she is now eager to connect with more artists and music lovers from all over the world.
Let's explore each of the songs! The Intro song "Friendsgiving" is about the beauty of interpersonal relationships and features captivating jazz solos from the members of the live band, smoothly transitioning to the second song "I Want You", where R&B crosses with rap in a concept theme morphed to a renewed meaning when she played it at the hospital to her best friend’s dying father. In a folk singer/songwriter style, "Trail of X’s" is about people who are no longer part of her life, being the most melancholic song of the album. The acoustic sound highlights Mrfy’s voice, wonderfully accompanied by the sax. The overwhelming feeling of desire for someone you’re attracted to is the concept behind the dreamy "Blindly", where the melody is characterized by the push and pull of the major and minor chords, symbolizing the nature of attraction. The soulful ballad "Misunderstood" describes the feeling of being negatively judged without an opportunity to explain yourself, going over a sense of acceptance for what can’t be changed. The latest songs of the album are more R&B and funk driven. In "Friday the 13th" the singer reflects over her four year relationship with her ex and how it affected her self-worth, body image and insecurities, featuring a melody that sounds happy but is actually sad, as the codependent relationship was. The album ends with "Right Moves", the most introspective song of the album, that represents a personal growth song and a testament for Mrfy to figure out if she is doing the "right moves" in her life.
"I’m finally at a point in my artistry where I’m happy with my music. And I couldn’t have done it without the people who believed in me" Mrfy shares "I'm pretty community oriented, and I’d love to leave my music open to the free interpretation of the listeners, allowing them to apply my lyrics to their own journey. Performing my songs is my greatest joy. I think I finally found a place where I love sharing my music and I feel so profoundly good when I play it!".
