Jaimey Hamilton |
Hailing from Victoria, BC, Jaimey Hamilton is a country music singer/songwriter and perfomer. With influences such as Hailey Whitters, Carly Pearce and Miranda Lambert, her captivating melodies and soulful lyrics are sure to draw you in from the start.
Her engaging performances and striking vocals continue to gain Hamilton a following in the local Victoria music scene. With performances at the Cook Street Village Block Party (2022), opening for Ryan McMahone at Vinyl Envy (2022), singing the national anthem at Starlight Stadium (2022) and a show at the Duke Saloon (2021).
Hamilton’s story is also one of resilience. By the age of 12, she had been diagnosed with Leukemia three times and survived a bone marrow transplant. During her darkest hours, she turned to her passion of songwriting. "It was a healing outlet for me", recalls Hamilton. "Music was the one thing that was always there for me and kept me inspired". August 2022 marks 10 years since the bone marrow transplant.
She graduated with a Certificate in Music Performance through Camosun College at the Victoria Conservatory of Music (2021).
Hamilton’s upcoming single, "Anxious Heart" out June 24th, recorded at Barnhouse Sound Productions studios in Qualicum, BC alongside Chris Eriksen and Malcom Owen-Flood is an empowering song written with Matt Teed and Johnny Kennedy. "It’s a lesson and a reminder to never settle for anything less than what you deserve", says Hamilton. Her previous single, "Save a Barstool for Me" (2021) was inspired by her grandpa’s passing.
The story of Jaimey is truly inspiring and I'm very happy to share it as well as her music. "Anxious Heart" has a powerful sound that hits from the very start, and its lyrics hit even more. Each of us has lived the experience - or had a friend who did - of being like "we lost sight for our own worth", blinded to make a relationship work. Every line is so true and meaningful. Great instrumental and voice work and great songwriting make "Anxious Heart" a very pleasant and relatable song to listen to!
About "Anxious Heart" she says: "I had so much fun writing this song with my co-writers Johnny Kennedy & Matt Teed over Zoom in 2021. It was definitely one of those rare songs that came so effortlessly in the writing room. I first brought up a lyric idea I previosuly had; "she thinks a diamond ring will fix everything". Teed then brought an idea of an "anxious heart" to the google doc. From there, the three of us spent the next two hours bouncing ideas back and forth. At this time in my life I had multiple people close to me either going through a break up or having trouble in their relationships. Specifically, I had one of my best friends come to me during a difficult time in her relationship, which brought us to this perspective of a girl in an ill-fated relationship".
"I am so happy and proud of this song", Hamilton shares "I love that it’s sassy, empowering and relatable. I hope when people listen to this song they remember to "never settle and never give in" to anything less than they deserve".
"Anxious Heart"
She grew up tough, had two older brothers
Never let nobody tell her what to do
She never fell for "that type" of guy
Had one hell of a backbone
She was beautiful too
Now she calls me at 2am crying
He walked out again
I comfort my bestfriend
Then watch her walk right back to him
She thinks a diamond ring will fix everything
She don’t see the wrong that he’s been doing
Blinded and so caught up in making it work
It’s like she lost sight of her own worth
Now I wish I could go back and tell her from the start to
Never settle, never give in to an anxious heart
He’s heavy on the whisky it never ends well
She’s sober since she’s taken care of him
Somehow she’s still under his spell
Don’t worry I’ll be here for her when it all goes to hell
